Merlin presented a series of three spectacular firework displays over the Bank Holiday weekend to entertain guests aboard the “Freedom of the Seas”, Royal Caribbeans luxurious new flagship and the largest cruise ship in the world at 158,000 tonnes.
The three displays were designed and choreographed to a specially mixed soundtrack and fired from barges on Southampton Water.
Computer timecode was broadcast from the Ship to the barges enabling Merlin’s computer firing systems to fire the fireworks in synchronisation with the soundtrack and the accompanying Space Cannon lightshow.
E.ON UK’s Ratcliffe-On-Soar Power Station was the venue for a spectacular Fireworks and laser display with proceeds raised from the evening going to Rainbows Childrens Hospice.
The twenty minute display was musically choreographed and computer controlled for effective synchronisation between music, fireworks and multiple lasers.
The display was fired within the Power Station site and provided a rare opportunity for members of the public to see close up one of the East Midlands’ most famous landmarks.

Merlin were proud to have been selected to return to Cork to mark the Closing of Cork’s year as European Capital of Culture. The Merlin team worked from Boxing Day to install the fireworks at Collins Army Barracks and at a number of City rooftops.
The soundtrack featured music from Irish and Cork bands and Merlin’s control systems used timecode and radio links to ensure the firework display was launched in sync with the music across the City.
The fifteen minute display was hailed a success by the thousands of spectators who turned out despite very poor weather.
